The story

We want to pay homage to the roots of the Althus in Zug. We have chosen to re-invent this establishment by emphasizing the core roots of the foundation of the Althus and Zug itself : community driven, local focus and friendship… We plan to celebrate local artisans and producers by not only offering their products, but by adding value to them and educating our guests of their Craft. As far as our cuisine is concerned, in the true spirit of Zug we will focus on Swiss cuisine with an international touch driven by local fresh produce. In the drinks department, we will continue our local focus by specializing in craft Beer without forgetting about our great diversity of local spirits and wine. With a mix of super friendly staff and a great atmosphere, we hope to truly re-create the Althus spirit as it once was imagined by the Christen’s so long ago! Join us and be part of the next chapter of the Althus…

History

Discover Zug’s first and oldest bar – over the years, this establishment has been known as Sie + Er and Café Ticino. In 1954, Frau Martha Christen envisioned turning her café into a bar. Despite being refused permission by local authorities who didn’t favor having a bar and on top of that women in that industry, she took matters to the Swiss Federal Court who eventually ruled in her favor. Thanks to Frau Christen’s fierce determination, this establishment can wear today its history proudly!

1946

The place is re-opened as Café Ticino in true northen Italian style.

1954

Frau Christen wins in court and re-opens as Zug’s first bar!
